Altamont city council members have approved a contract for private development in the city's TIF District.

The contract with Wortman Holdings involves rebuilding on the Jack Flash site south of the Altamont McDonald's. As a term of the agreement, Wortman Holdings will receive a rebate of 50% of its real estate tax on the parcel for 10 years, or $250,000, whichever comes first.

The Council also approved an economic incentive agreement for Wortman's property in the Business District formed in recent years on the south end. Wortman Holdings has been getting a 1% rebate on fuel sales at Jack Flash. Now, the business will receive 1% of all sales at the site.

The Altamont council also paid Milano and Grunloh Engineers of Effingham a total of $29,497 for design work on the West Division Avenue storm sewer project. The sewer collapsed along a downtown portion of Division. The roadway leads to the Altamont elevator, so work will be expedited in hopes of getting repairs made ahead of harvest season.

Altamont council members also rezoned a lot at 109 West Division from B2 to R2 to reflect a residence on the property, and named Matt Ramsey of Cobblestone Suites to the city's tourism board. Altamont City Council Clerk Sarah Stephen said Ramsey should provide input on what events generate the most heads in beds, which is a key barometer in deciding what entities should receive tourism dollars.
