The Effingham City Plan Commission had two items to consider on Tuesday's agenda, but never had the chance to act on either.

Both items involved rezoning proposals.

Kalen and Bailey Whitney had proposed rezoning their property at 11292 East State Highway 33 from single-family residential to general commercial. The Whitneys proposed using the house on the property as an office and showroom for their roofing business, and using portions of the property for parking for vehicles used by the business, and for the storage of roofing materials.

The parcel is surrounded by single-family residential zoned property and several neighboring property owners were present to voice opposition to the proposal.

During a break in the hearing, Kalen Whitney approached City officials and asked to withdraw his petition for the rezoning. Whitney's request to withdraw was granted, so the matter is ended.

The other rezoning request was filed by Todd Anderson for property at West Fayette Avenue and Outer Belt West, and involved rezoning all of the properties on the southwest corner of that intersection from single-family residential to highway commercial district.

However, Anderson did not appear at Tuesday's meeting, so the matter was tabled until Anderson seeks some action by the Commission in the future.
