Scott's Law directs motorists approaching a stationary authorized emergency vehicle displaying flashing red and blue lights or amber and yellow lights to change lanes away from the emergency vehicle.
If you can't change lanes, reduce speed and maintain a safe speed while passing the emergency vehicle.
16 law enforcement officers have been hit while conducting traffic stops on the side of the road in Illinois in 2019. Illinois has had foru traffic-related officer fatalities already this year.
Sheriffs across Illinois will be participating in a traffic awareness campaign April 12-19 specifically aimed at Scott's Law and distracted driving violators. The Sheriff's Association encourages you to obey all the rules of the road and stay focused when driving.
