Effingham city residents will be choosing a mayor and four city commissioners. Mayoral candidates are incumbent Jeff Bloemker and challengers Mike Schutzbach and Scott Ealy. Commissioner candidates are incumbents Kevin Esker, Kevin Willis, Merv Gillenwater and Don Althoff and challengers Jayne Miller, Libby Moeller, Larry Micenheimer and Hank Stephens.

Altamont city residents will choose a mayor, either incumbent Jason Rippetoe or challenger Clarence Pagel, and four commissioners. The candidates are Terry White, Todd Slingerland, Michael Walker, Dan Milleville and Tayler Polk.

Beecher City village residents will select a village board president to fill a two-year term, either Rita Sue Felty or Larry Haslett, and three village trustees from six candidates, Dail Schonschack, Leslie Wood, Philip Childress, Louis Haslett, Christopher Haslett and Stacey Bowlin.

In Dieterich, residents have three candidates on the ballot for three seats, Carrie Galbreath, Derick Stumeier and Sean Pankau, and one candidate for an unexpired two-year term, Bill Lane.

In Edgewood, Karen Mahaffey is the sole candidate on the ballot for village clerk, and John Limes, Gloria Hissong and Robert Burgess for the three village trustee seats available.

In Montrose, Jane Mellendorf and Danny Tague are the only two candidates on the ballot for three trustee seats.

In Shumway, Suzanne Long is the only candidate on the ballot for one of three trustee seats.

In Teutopolis, there are four candidates for three trustee seats; Kenneth Esker, Jane Summers, Bernard Hartke and Daniel Zerrusen.

In Watson, Tom Freeman is the only candidate on the ballot for village clerk, while Joey Meyer, Jared Yocum and Adam Tarr are the three candidates on the ballot for three village trustee seats.

In Mason, Lisa O'Leary, Sally Chandler and Melanie Noland are the three candidates on the ballot for three trustee seats.

There are also races for park board commissioner on Tuesday. In Effingham, neither incumbent is seeking re-election for the two seats available. The three candidates on the ballot are Tara Higgs, Angie Kronewitter and Mike Cunningham.

In Dieterich, Mason Township and Teutopolis, there are either just enough candidates for the seats available or, in the case of Mason Township, no one on the ballot so a write-in candidate will be elected.

We will also be electing school board members on Tuesday.

In Effingham Unit 40, there are five candidates for four available seats on the board. The candidates are incumbent Jane Willenborg and challengers Robin Klosterman, Dannielle Kingery Harden, Jill Wendling, and Bradley Waldhoff. The other three incumbents are not seeking re-election.

In Altamont Unit 10, there are five candidates for four seats; Alan Kollman, Amanda Miller, Kerry Wolff, Dane Milleville and Shelly Kuhns. Kollman, Miller, Wolff and Milleville are from the same portion of the school district, so only three can be elected.

In Beecher City Unit 20, there are two candidates for two unexpired two-year terms on the board; Jacob Shane Burks and Craig Anderson, and four candidates for four four-year terms; Lee Roadarmel, Jordan Shields, David Doty and Ryan Schaefer.

In Dieterich Unit 30, there is no candidate on the ballot for an unexpired two-year term, and just three candidates for four four-year terms; Thad Goebel, Douglas Baxter and Cory Niebrugge.

In Teutopolis Unit 50, three are just three candidates for four four-year terms; Bradley Koester, Chandler Hewing and Brian Meyer.

We will also decide three members of the Lake Land Community College Board of Trustees. There are three candidates for two six-year terms; Dave Storm, Kevin Curtis and Meg Yargus Steward, and one candidate for an unexpired four-year term, Denise Walk.

Residents of the Shumway Fire Protection District will elect two people for six-year terms. There are three candidates: Brandon Kolb, Randall Thoele and Danny Klepzig.

Also to be decided in Effingham County, whether to impose a 1% service occupation tax, or sales tax, with the proceeds going to new construction or renovation work on school facilities in the county. A "Yes" vote means you're in favor of the tax, a "No" vote means you're not.
