Andrew Koester has been appointed Clay County State's Attorney.

Koester was appointed to the position Tuesday evening during a special meeting of the Clay County Board. He will succeed Joel Powless, who has been named Clay County Resident Circuit Judge. Powless was named to that position due to the retirement of Judge Robin Todd.

The changes are effective March 1.

Koester is the son of Chris and Dana Koester of Effingham. He is a graduate of Notre Dame Law School, and has worked in the press office of the Republican National Committee. He also has worked for Congressman Pete Sessions from Dallas, Texas.

Koester has worked as Clay County Assistant State's Attorney for the past two years.
