Effingham Mayor Jeff Bloemker has announced plans for the Mayor's Office to host a Town Hall meeting on the topic "Affordable Housing and How Much Does Effingham Need?"

The Town Hall will take at Effingham City Hall at 6:30pm on Wednesday, February 27, and will be open to the public.

The Mayor's Office plans to invite local developers, homebuilders, realtors, and other vested business interests to join in a conversation about what the mayor termed the "real and perceived need for housing and residential opportunities in the City of Effingham."

Bloemker said, "There has been an escalating rally for more housing opportunities in Effingham. Employers claim their employees have trouble finding places to live in Effingham. Employed persons claim there aren't enough affordable housing options in Effingham. Conventional wisdom says the free market will step up and take care of that demand. Vested interests say that won't happen fast enough."

The mayor continued, "the standing question is 'how involved should the local units of government be in this process?' We hope to be able to scratch around on this topic on February 27 and maybe come up with some direction to help address this concern."
