One man was killed and three others were injured in a crash on I-70 in Effingham County early Sunday morning.
The crash happened at 1:24am in the westbound lanes about two miles west of Montrose. State police say a vehicle driven by 85-year-old Cecil Hardesty of Neoga was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes and collided head-on with a westbound vehicle driven by 28-year-old Stephanie Chitwood of Seagoville, Texas.
Hardesty was pronounced dead at the scene by Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes. Chitwood and her passengers, 20-year-old Megan Vice of Pontoon Beach and 23-year-old Matthew Stephenson of Perryville, Missouri, were all injured and were taken for treatment.
No citations were issued.
The westbound lanes of I-70 were closed for about two hours due to the crash.
