We could see record-breaking cold temperatures in our area through Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service reports that the record low high for January 30 in Effingham is 11 degrees, set in 1965. We are expecting to get barely above zero today.

Wind chill temperatures of 20 to 50 degrees below zero have developed across the area, and will remain 15 to 30 degrees below through afternoon. A combination of lighter winds and some warming will finally break the deep freeze by Thursday morning.

Another weather disturbance may bring a dusting to an inch or so of snow Thursday afternoon and evening. Some light freezing rain and drizzle may follow this disturbance late Thursday night.
