Bill Fritcher (Effingham County Kiwanis) and Gary Hawker (Mattoon Kiwanis) spoke about what Kiwanis does for the community as a new service club that started last summer in the Effingham area.

Kiwanis International is a global community of clubs, members and partners dedicated to improving the lives of children one community at a time. Each community has different needs, and Kiwanis empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children, such as fighting hunger, improving literacy and offering guidance. In Effingham, Kiwanis has helped the FISH Christmas store with set up and tear down, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Krops 4 Kids, Head Start, and will be partnering with HSHS St Anthony in the near future.

The Kiwanis Club of Effingham County meets twice a month at noon on Wednesdays at McAlisters Deli in Effingham. The club is working on strategic goals to help guide their service projects and to increase awareness for membership growth. For a membership application, contact Bill at 217-240-0247.
