Some additional information on the special meeting Thursday night of the Teutopolis Board of Education.
Board members have awarded bids for a nine-room addition to their high school building.
The Board accepted a bid of $1,828,705 from L.J. Swingler Construction for a seven-room addition and renovations to five classrooms at Teutopolis High School and moisture mitigation at the high school. Also accepted was an alternate bid of $267,545 from Swingler for an additional two classrooms at the high school and moisture mitigation.
The Board decided against a project to renovate the front exterior of the 2002 addition to the high school building.
The Board accepted a bid of $36,115 from KAM Services to remove asbestos from Classrooms 107 and 108 at the high school; accepted a bid of $37,246 from Stevens Industries for casework in the first group of classrooms; and accepted a bid of $8,063 from Stevens for casework in the two additional classrooms.
Board members directed Stifel-Niclaus, their bond counsel, to plan for $2.4 million in borrowing. That includes architect and engineering fees, some asbestos abatement by KAM Solutions, and casework for the classrooms by Stevens Industries.
The Board vote on the major items was 6-1 with Leon Gobczynski voting No, but the Board voted 7-0 on the asbestos abatement work and the casework.
Board members also discussed the second phase of work at the high school building.
In a separate matter, Teutopolis board members discussed whether to bid property/casualty insurance and withdraw from the Prairie State Insurance Cooperative. No action was taken.
