Things are back to normal along I-70 between Effingham and Altamont after a cattle hauler ran off into the median early today.
State police say the rig left the westbound lanes about three miles east of Altamont at 4:15am. The vehicle entered the median and overturned.
Police say 30 of the 39 head of cattle in the hauler were safely rescued by emergency personnel and volunteers. Lanes of travel were intermittently impeded for about seven hours.
State police also are reminding motorists to always remain alert while driving and avoid utilizing hand-held electronics in areas where emergency workers are present.
