The Effingham County Salvation Army bellringing campaign during the recent Christmas season raised just over $33,000.

The campaign ran from Thanksgiving weekend through Christmas Eve. Bellringer locations included Rural King, Martin's IGA+, Walmart and a new location Niemerg's Steak House.

The funds are used to benefit others in emergency situations.

At a meeting of the Salvation Army board Monday, the Board voted to name Roger Friese as chairman. Friese succeeds Rev. David McConnell as chairman, but McConnell will remain on the board. The Board also approved Aaron Myers as treasurer, succeeding Kyndy Schafer in that position.
