Effingham Noon Rotarians got a rare treat at their meeting January 2.

Club members got to hear from 98-year-old Bill Antrim of Shumway. The World War II veteran was on hand courtesy of Antrim's niece, Beverly Soltwedel and her brother-in-law, Norbert Soltwedel.

Antrim discussed his time in the US Army during the war, serving as part of General George Patton's 3rd Army, as well as life in the 1940s.

The meeting also served as an opportunity for non-natives to the county to discuss what brought them here, and why they've stayed.
