There have been more filers in local election contests.

Local attorney Scott Ealy Friday filed as a candidate for Effingham mayor. Ealy joins incumbent Jeff Bloemker and retired police chief Mike Schutzbach as mayoral candidates.

In the Lake Land College Board of Trustees race, we told you that Denise Walk of Teutopolis had withdrawn as a candidate for one of the two full six-year terms up on the Board. Since then, Walk has filed for an unexpired term on the Board that has four years to run. She is so far the only person to file for the unexpired term.

That leaves incumbent Dave Storm of Effingham, Meg Yargus Steward of Marshall and Kevin L. Curtis of Mattoon as candidates for the two six-year terms. Steward is currently serving the unexpired term Walk is seeking until the April 2 election.

In area school board races, Dane Milleville has filed as a candidate for the Altamont Unit 10 Board of Education. Milleville brings to five the number of people seeking election to the Altamont board.

Douglas Baxter has filed as a candidate for the Dieterich Unit 30 Board of Education. That brings to two the number of candidates for the Dieterich board.

Two more people have filed for election to the Effingham Park Board. They are Mike Cunningham and Angie Kronewitter. That brings to three the number of people seeking election to one of the two seats available. Neither incumbent, Dennis Carie or Chris Huelsbusch, are seeking re-election.

The filing period continues through Monday.
