VIDEO: Tornado Hits Taylorville; No Reports Yet of Major Injuries

A tornado hit Taylorville Saturday evening, doing significant damage. There are no reports of serious injuries.

The twister hit Taylorville about 5:30pm. Initially, a number of people in the town were trapped in their vehicles and some homes due to debris and downed power lines.

The first reports were that the hardest-hit areas were around Taylorville High School on the city's northwest side.

The group of fire departments in our area that are part of MABAS 54, a mutual assistance agency, were called to the scene. That included fire units from Effingham and surrounding communities.
