Negotiators for the Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education and the Effingham Education Support Professionals met with a mediator Thursday evening in an effort to reach agreement on a new contract.

The parties had what Unit 40 Superintendent Mark Doan termed a "good discussion". Doan said there are some things that the parties need to verify, but said, "We're moving forward."

The parties have agreed to meet again, but Doan said they are yet to schedule a date for the next session.

There are about 140 members of the Support Professionals Association in Unit 40, including secretaries, bus drivers, paraprofessionals, custodians and cooks.
