The Effingham County 911 Board Monday approved a fiscal year budget calling for $5,521 more in income than in outgo.

Expenditures are projected to total $863,213.

Included as part of the budget is a payment to Illinois Century Network for Internet service for 911. The bulk of the service is Internet for 911, but a percentage is for the LEADS network for city police and for the county sheriff's department. The departments will pay for their share of the service, with 911 paying the balance.

911 System Administrator Jodi Moomaw said that the State is writing the rules of how 911 funds can be used, since so many 911 dispatch points are being consolidated.

The Board was also updated on set-up of the new Next Generation phone system for 911. Board members heard that maintenance of the existing system is being extended month-to-month until the new service goes online.

Sheriff Dave Mahon reported that he has contacted an individual about the transmitter tower along Route 40 between Effingham and Teutopolis that is no longer utilized by 911, in hopes the firm will take over maintenance of the tower and 911 will no longer have to cover insurance for the tower and site.
