The Effingham City Council is to vote tonight on salaries for the Council members to be elected in 2019.

The salaries are proposed to go to $20,000 for mayor and $12,000 for each commissioner. The current salaries are $16,000 for mayor and $10,000 for each commissioner.

The law states that a current Council can't raise their own pay.

The Council is also to consider seeking a housing rehabilitation grant. The City would have to commit $10,000 toward the grant program, but could receive a grant of just under $500,000. The funds would be allocated to rehabilitate at least 10 homes.

Council members will also consider a proposal from Barbeck Communications Group to switch over the 9-1-1 system from the current location to the new city police station.

Discussion of the tax levy for the coming fiscal year is also scheduled.

Meeting time is 6pm at Effingham City Hall.
