No Shave November is a month-long journey during which participants forgo shaving in order to evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness.
The Effingham City Police Department will join in on the fun of "No Shave November", which will run from today through December 1 at 6am. In keeping wth the mission of the department to enhance the quality of life in the City of Effingham, the campaign will focus on providing Thanksgiving dinners to a family or families in need during the holiday season who may have a loved one battling cancer.
Department members will have the chance to put their razors away and forgo shaving in the form of growing a full beard and/or goatee that must be groomed and properly maintained throughout the month.
To ensure all employees are able to participate in the fun, female members will be authorized to wear a "thin blue line" hair extension during "No Shave November". Bladez Hair Salon owner Nikki Hilton has donated the extensions and her time at no cost to department members.
To participate in the campaign, department members will pledge a monetary donation of $50 and one canned food product. All proceeds will be utilized to feed a family or families. The Department anticipates delivering the food on November 21.
City Police Chief Jeff Fuesting said, "This is the first year that we have chosen to participate in the campaign and we're happy to support those in need during the holiday season. I'm grateful for the support of Bladez Hair Salon for their contributions during this campaign."
