Several Injured in Crash in St. Elmo

Several injuries resulted from a crash in St. Elmo Monday evening.

State police say the crash occurred just after 5:30pm on 6th Place Road, a quarter-mile west of Ash Street in St. Elmo.

Police report a car driven by a 17-year-old boy from Vandalia backed out of a driveway onto 6th Place Road and was struck in the rear passenger side by a car driven by 20-year-old Jenna Long of St. Elmo.

The 17-year-old boy from Vandalia and his passengers, another 17-year-old boy from Vandalia and a 16-year-old girl from St. Elmo, were all injured. The girl was airlifted to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, while the two boys were taken to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia. Jenna Long, the other driver, was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

The 17-year-old male driver was cited for no valid driver's license, failure to yield from a private drive, and failure to secure a child in a child restraint system.
