A large crowd was on hand Thursday night for the 2018 Life Banquet. The event is a major fundraiser for the Family Life Center in Effingham. This was the 23rd annual banquet.

The guest speaker was Jor-El Godsey, president of Heartbeat International, an organization seeking to promote life issues. Yes, his parents named him with Superman in mind.

The theme for the event was "Knit Together". Other speakers included Reverend Roger Long, who head the Life Center's Men's Ministry Advisory Board, and Ashley Bigard, a friend of the Family Life Center. Bigard and her boyfriend decided to keep their baby as teenagers and with the help of the Life Center were married and now have a second child while finishing college degrees and starting their careers.
