Two Crashes w/Injuries in County Over Weekend

Two crashes involving injuries occurred in Effingham County over the weekend, both in Banner Township in the northwest part of the county.

One crash occurred at 6:19pm Saturday on 1800th Avenue at 900th Street, just east of Shumway.

County sheriff's deputies report a car driven by 23-year-old Terry LR Walls of Beecher City began to travel through the intersection and struck the front left of a car driven by 40-year-old Tammy Manhart of Stewardson.

Walls was injured and was transported to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. 

There was no report of any citations being issued.

The other crash occurred at 3:17pm Sunday on Illinois Route 32 just south of 2050th Avenue near the Effingham-Shelby County line.

Deputies report a car driven by 19-year-old Hannah Schumacher of Strasburg came up behind a tractor and attempted to stop. Schumacher lost control of the vehicle, which ran off into a ditch, and struck a tree and culvert.

Schumacher was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Schumacher was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
