The Teutopolis State Bank Fund has granted $1,000 to Teutopolis Lions Club. The grant will be used to cover a portion of the expenses of Teutopolis youth participating in the Catholic Heart Workcamp. The Workcamp is a missions trip in which youth and chaperones from Teutopolis travel to urban cities and participate in service projects that restore neighborhoods and minister to those in need.

Teutopolis Lions Club raises money each year to cover the cost of the trip. “The kids are giving a week of their time to help the less fortunate and covering their expenses allows the youth to go on the trip without worrying about travel and tools expenses,” explains Joe Bohn, President of the Teutopolis Lions Club board. “Hearing from past participants, they get as much out of it as the people they are serving. The youth get a better understanding of how fortunate they have it here and the work gives them a chance to help the less fortunate.”

Teutopolis State Bank also granted $167 to the C.E.F.S. Learning Center for its Adult Volunteer Literacy Program. The program serves those age 17 and older, who are not enrolled in high school, and lack sufficient skill in reading, writing, math, and English.
The grant will fund the purchase of 10 pre-GED books for adult learners to increase literacy skills.
Teutopolis State Bank established a designated fund at Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation in 2000 to support charitable organizations in Teutopolis working in the areas of civic, cultural health, health, education or social services.
