A public meeting – sponsored by individuals, not by the school board – on Monday, Sept. 17, will offer residents more insight into the proposed Teutopolis High School building project.

The school board is considering demolition of the oldest section of the High School (the 1929 section), and building nine classrooms.

The meeting at the Siemer Building, located on the southwest corner of Green and Main streets, starts at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Entrance to that building will be offered in the middle of the east wall of the Siemer structure and attendees can park at the Siemer Milling office lot on the east side of Green Street.

This meeting will cover the effect on property tax bills, the fact no referendum is planned by the school district, plus new construction during a time of decreased enrollment and changes in technology. The use and condition of the 1929 section of THS will be discussed, as well.

The timing of this meeting comes a week before the next regular meeting of the Teutopolis Unit 50 School Board on September 24, which might include a vote on the multimillion dollar demolition/building project.

Everyone is welcome to the meeting for an open discussion on the issue. Organizers call this gathering a chance for residents to become better informed about the issue and the effect it could have on the community for years to come.
