Effingham firefighters were called to a false alarm at a local alternative school Wednesday morning.

The call was to Fresh Start, which is located in the former East Side School building at 215 North 1st Street. The call came about 10:15am.

Students were evacuated from the building until the cause of the alarm was determined. The alarm was due to an activated detector in the gym area of the building. Fire crews re-set the detector and it held, so that eliminated the problem. Students were returned to class about a half-hour after the incident began.
