St. Elmo Labor Day Weekend Event Starts Friday

The 2018 St. Elmo Labor Day Weekend Event begins Friday.
A Junior Mayor Contest is planned at 7pm Friday. The contest is open to any child eight to 10 years old in the St. Elmo School District. Sign-up forms are available at Daryl's Dine In, St. Elmo Library, T & J Food Mart, and Mary Ann's. No entry fee will be charged.
A full day of activities is planned Saturday. Here's the schedule:
Haley Wilhour Memorial 5K Run--Registration from 7:30-8:00am. Race starting at 8am. $20 entry fee, with net proceeds being donated to the family of Haley Wilhour
7am-Noon--Trunk Sale at St. Elmo Community Park. Spots available on a first-come, first-served basis. $5/car, $10/pavilion. Contact Kimberly Baron at 618-231-2413 for pavilion rental
7am-Noon--Bake Sale in the Centennial Building. Donations accepted Friday 6 to 8pm and Saturday morning
8am--City-Wide Garage Sales
1pm--Chili Cook-off in the Centennial Building. Sign up will begin at 12:30pm. $10 entry fee. For more information, you may call or text Kimberly Baron at 618-231-2413
4pm--Corn Hole Tournament (adults only). Team sign up the day of the event until 3pm in the Centennial Building. $10 entry fee per team.
7:30pm--Free outdoor family movie at the park. Concessions open at 7:30pm. Movie will start at dusk.
On Sunday, a gospel sing is planned at 6pm at St. Elmo Christian Church with Fourgiven Quartet to perform.
Monday is a full day of activities. Here's the schedule:
6-9:30am--Pancake breakfast at the firehouse
10:30am--Parade begins. Line up at the high school at 9am. The route will be south on Walnut, then west on Third to the park. $5 entry fee can be paid the day of the parade. Entry forms can be found online at www.cityofstelmo.com. The parade theme is "American Pride: Honoring Our First Responders" and the colors are red, white and blue
Noon--Events, games and concession booths open in the park on West 3rd Street
--12:30pm--A play, "An Abbreviated History of St. Elmo"
1pm--Parade winners announced by the Lions Club
1-5pm--SEBA Bingo--in front of the Centennial Building on 3rd Street
1:10pm--St. Elmo Story Tellers Q and A--Come armed with questions about the history of St. Elmo
2pm--Water Fights sponsored by the St. Elmo Fire Department
5pm--Space Camp Council will perform
5pm--Lions Club Cake Walk
6pm--50/50 Drawing Winner and Citizen of the Year announcements
6-8pm--"Soul Riot" will perform
