A cancer survivor is walking across the United States and will be journeying through Effingham County today.

Kevin Fern is traveling along US Route 40. He stayed Sunday night in St. Elmo and has a goal of reaching Teutopolis by tonight.

Kevin should be easy to spot; he's pushing an IV pole while walking. The pole is symbolic of Kevin's battle against cancer and the chemotherapy he had to undergo during the battle.

Kevin's walk began in Manhattan Beach, California and is to conclude in Boston. It's a journey of about 4,000 miles. He plans to leave the IV pole in Boston as a symbol of being free from not only the pole, but chemotherapy treatments and cancer.

We plan to interview Kevin while he's in Effingham County later today.
