A tentative contract agreement has been reached between bargainers for the Effingham Unit 40 School District and the Effingham Classroom Teachers Association. The tentative agreement follows a marathon bargaining session Friday.

Unit 40 Superintendent Mark Doan released a statement about 8pm that follows: "The Board of Education for Effingham CUSD #40 is pleased to announce that the parties have reached a tentative agreement over a successor collective bargaining agreement. The terms of the parties' tentative agreement are being withheld until the ECTA and the Board of Education have an opportunity to consider and ratify the agreement."

Effingham Classroom Teachers Association President Shannon Hall-Nannini released a statement late Friday night that follows: "After a long and arduous negotiation process, the ECTA negotiating team and the District have come to a tentative agreement which will be taken to our members for a ratification vote. We are optimistic the District and the ECTA can move forward building a new foundation here in Unit 40 with good working conditions, transparency, benefits, compensation, a positive work environment, and respect for the employees. We are hopeful that in this coming school year and subsequent years we can work collaboratively on shared interests for the staff, students, and community. We would like to thank our ECTA members and the Effingham community. We believe we would not have reached a tentative agreement without their support."

Contract talks began at 10am Friday.
