Teutopolis school board members Monday discussed the next steps for the high school building, and approved changes to the district's health/life safety plan. The Board approved an amendment for General Obligation bonds to complete the health/life safety work or to do additional work beyond health/life safety.

The Board continues trying to decide whether to rebuild or replace the original portion of the high school building, and whether to pursue options such as a new gym or a new cafeteria.

The Board also discussed the next steps regarding the roof on the junior high school building and the loud popping sound heard. There is the possibility of the roof moving due to the weight being lifted from it because the old ballasted roof system was so heavy. The Board discussed installing area dividers. The Carlisle Roof System rep and the Versico rep both believe that time will resolve the issue.

Board members approved the second reading of a policy change regarding the Accelerated Placement Act that is recommended by the Illinois Association of School Board, and heard a presentation from Boardworks, a company that enhances workshop-model classrooms with digital content. The program is a supplement for teachers to enhance existing curriculum to give students additional practice of concepts/skills across a wide variety of grade levels and curriculum areas.

The Board discussed the budget for the coming fiscal year and also acted on several personnel matters. The Board accepted resignations from Greg Downes as grade school Music teacher and junior high band director, Tim Pezan as frosh/soph spring boys baseball coach, and Lisa Miller as grade school cafeteria helper. Those hired are Suzy Parks as assistant soccer coach, Mike Wilson as boys golf coach, Derek Thompson as high school assistant fall baseball coach, Jordan Pals as frosh/soph boys spring baseball coach, Bethany Donaldson as junior high boys track coach, Cassie Miller as high school library aide for seven hours a day, and Braydan Bushue as volunteer for boys high school golf.
