The murder trial of Clay City resident Alexander Beal has been delayed in Clay County.

The 22-year-old Beal is charged with two counts of first degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery. Beal is charged with a role in the death of a two-year-old child in Clay City in April.

Early in the morning on April 22, the Clay County Sheriff's Department responded with Clay County Hospital Ambulance to a medical call for the child in Clay City. At the scene, deputies began to investigate the incident with assistance from the Child Death Investigative Task Force. As the agencies continued their investigation, they were notified on April 24 that the child had died.

Beal's trial had been set to begin on August 6, but Clay County State's Attorney Joel Powless Monday asked for a continuance as he is awaiting evidence from an autopsy of the victim.

Beal is now set to go on trial October 9. He is next due in court on August 20, with a final pre-trial set for September 12. He is being held under $1 million bond.
