Rural King has finalized its plans for Cross County Mall in Mattoon, and that includes moving their Mattoon store to the mall.

The Rural King store will be located in the former Sears space. The move is designed to drive more traffic to the mall and other businesses in the area.

Construction is anticipated to begin in August, with the store moving from the Dewitt Avenue location to the mall in January. The current facility will continue to serve as a distribution center, and the headquarters will be expanded into the current Rural King store space.

Rural King began in Mattoon in 1960. In 1999, the company moved the store, office and distribution center across the street to the current location. The business has added more than 100 stores in a 13-state area.

The announcement concerning the Rural King follows word that Scotty's Brewhouse would be locating in the mall later this year.

Rural King Realty, the real estate division of the company, has been working to revitalize the mall after taking ownership late in 2017.

The new Rural King store in the mall will have everything patrons expect, including free popcorn and free coffee.
