Corn Acres Down, Bean Acres Up in Illinois

The USDA reports corn acreage in Illinois is down this year, while soybean acreage is up this year.

It's estimated that 11 million acres of corn are planted in Illinois, compared to 11.2 million acres last year. Soybean acreage was estimated at 10.9 million acres, up 3% from last year.

Illinois farmers planted an estimated 590,000 acres of wheat, up 18% from last year.

The Illinois corn stock totals 948 million bushels, up 7% from 2017. Illinois soybean stocks totaled 250 million bushels, up 52% from last year.

Illinois corn rated 83% good to excellent as of June 24, with 2% silking compared to the average of 1%. 78% of soybeans ranked good to excellent, with 23% blooming compared to the five-year average of 3%.

Nationally, 89.1 million acres of corn are planted, compared to 89.6 million acres of soybeans. It's the first time soybean acreage has outpaced corn acreage since 1983.
