Illinois US Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth have announced the award of more than $276,000 for rural development in central Illinois.

The grant announcement formalizes the award of $109,642 to Illinois Affordable Housing. The funding will help build four homes for very low income households in North Pointe Estates in Dieterich. The project was earlier announced by the Effingham Regional Growth Alliance.

Another grant totaling $25,000 goes to Hoosier Township in Clay County to purchase a replacement tractor.

Other grants in the region went to the Village of Palestine to pay for a replacement squad car for the police department and to Mazanek Farms in Marion County to purchase and install solar panels.
