A local Illinois State Trooper has been commended for his work on a multi-agency drug and weapons task force.

District 12 State Trooper Nathan Schnarre was commended by the FBI for his work in a case involving violent gang members and the distribution of heroin and weapons trafficking in six states.

The FBI noted Trooper Schnarre's "investigative prowess and relentless investigative techniques" that uncovered a hidden compartment during a traffic stop. The investigation led to the discovery of large amounts of heroin, and the recovery of firearms, half of which were military grade assault rifles. Schnarre's efforts provided evidence that led to the arrest of six individuals, with more federal charges pending.
