Summer is officially coming this week, and that means the arrival of Race Across America.

The nationwide bicycle race is again traveling through Effingham. Local organizer Mike Tipton said there will again be a local time station along US Route 40 adjacent to the Raney Street overpass. If you'd like to serve as a volunteer to welcome the riders, contact Tipton at 217-821-0422.

A reminder, too, to motorists that the riders will be traveling into Effingham via Route 40 and then on Henrietta to Fayette and then east on Fayette through town. The route will then head east out of town along Route 33 to Newton and Robinson. Please watch for the cyclists and give them as much room as possible.

The riders will be coming through town all week, but the bulk of the group is expected to reach town Wednesday and Thursday. Remember, the riders will be traveling at all hours of the day and night.
