Jasper County Board members Thursday oversaw the presentation to various helping agencies the funds generated by gaming in the county.

Jason Warfel presented checks to representatives of Newton Elementary School, Jasper County Youth Soccer, American Legion baseball, Jasper County Cancer Support Group, JJJH X 2, Jasper County Ag Association, Lincoln's Place, Jasper County Junior High Band, Jasper County Youth Wrestling, Jasper County Senior Center, Boys and Girls Park in Newton, Newton Elementary PTO, and Grove Township Community Center.

The Board approved a cost study by Kemper CPA Group for $6,000, and considered the cost estimates for door access systems; $2,790 for the State's Attorney's office and $2,785 for the Probation Department. The Board was also updated on damage done by lightning. There was damage to the county jail, Courthouse and County Office Building. Prices are being obtained to replace damaged equipment.

There was also further discussion of a jail project. Members heard from one report that it is almost time to hire an architect if the project is going to proceed. The jail committee has measured the area for the expansion and sought photos and estimates for the structure to be built in Phase 1. There was also discussion about sharing the building with the City of Newton.

Jasper Board members also approved an intergovernmental grant agreement with the County Highway Department and the country road districts.
