Accident on I-57 Kills Georgia Man

At 1:54 Tuesday morning a semi opperated by James T. McMorris 41, of Zachary, Louisianna was northbound on I-57, approximately five miles south of Neoga, at milepost 175. McMorris was traveling directly behind a Harley Davidson driven by George P. Varvitsiotes 56, of Newnan, Georgia in the right lane of traffic.  The semi struck the rear end of the motorcycle causing both units to leave the roadway.  

Varvitsiotes was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cumberland County Coroner.  

Charges are pending as further investigation is being completed by the Illinois State Police crash reconstruction unit and Illinois State Police commercial vehicle enforcement section.
