Effingham Public Library board members this week discussed what to pursue as a project to be benefited by the annual fundraising campaign.

The Board considered two projects: resuming the After School program that has worked with children during summer months the past several years, and expanding the library's Children's Department.

Library Director Amanda McKay said board members will mull over the options and reach a decision at a future meeting. McKay said last year's project, improving the landscaping of the building, is nearing completion.

Speaking of funds, the board updated the guidelines for their special reserve fund to include the possibility of using the money for making a mortgage payment. The board also transferred interest earned in their working cash fund to the special reserve fund.

The library board discussed the potential purchase of security cameras. The cameras would be placed on the two entrances to the building. McKay said they've had "a couple of very minor incidents". She said the staff is "doing a good job of monitoring the interior" of the library.

The board also updated the library's meeting room policy regarding food in the building. McKay said the amendment prohibits any open flames, including candles, and high heat sources such as hot plates and electric skillets.
