Effingham County Democrats have decided to slate local musician and entrepreneur Bill Passalacqua as a candidate for County Treasurer.

Passalacqua is an Effingham native and lives here now, but has toured the nation as an entertainer. He also works to schedule events such as the Moccasin Creek Festival in the Effingham area.

Passalacqua will be running against the Republican nominee for county treasurer, Paula Miller. Miller won a two-person contest earlier this year.

There is no incumbent in the race; longtime Treasurer Steve Dasenbrock is not seeking re-election.

Effingham County Democrats have also chosen their officers for this term. Dan Niebrugge is county Democrat chair; Allen Wente and Dave Seiler serve as vice-chairmen; Shirley McEvers as treasurer, and Phil Lewis is secretary.
