Illinois House Honors Vietnam Era Soldier from Cumberland County

House Joint Resolution 114 designates the segment of Illinois Route 121 in Cumberland County between CR 1450 East and County Road 1600 East as the "SPC Michael Flood Memorial Highway". 

The rural Toledo resident was killed in action on Good Friday April 4, 1969 while on routine patrol outside a firebase above the Ashau Valley along the Laotian border. He died while providing medical aid to others who were wounded. For his extraordinary bravery under fire, he was posthumously awarded the Silver Star and the Bronze Star.
