Big Haul of Marijuana Seized by Altamont Police

Approximately 264 pounds of marijuana was seized by Altamont City Police early Monday morning.

Altamont Police Chief Alan Heiens said the marijuana had an approximate street value of between $750,000 and $1 million.

Heiens said Altamont police stopped a minivan for traffic infractions and found the pot located inside the minivan. He said an assortment of deodorizers and fabric softeners were also located inside.

Three 22-year-olds were arrested on counts of possession of over 5,000 grams of cannabis and cannabis trafficking; Tyrell A. Jones of Chesepeake, Virginia, Joseph Allen, Jr. of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Jamil Q. Taylor-Kamara of Virginia Beach, Virginia. They were taken to Effingham County Jail.
