Friday, May 4 is Jane Summers Day.

Mayor Jeff Bloemker signed a proclamation recognizing the special date after Summers was announced as the 2018 Employee of the Year. The honor was shared during the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce Employee Appreciation Luncheon.

Summers is a 20-year employee of Siemer Milling Company in Teutopolis. She was nominated for her job performance, but also for her work in the community.

Other nominees were Jeannie Baker of West and Company LLC; Diana Barr of the Effingham Daily News; Tiffany Dunaway of Deb's Catering and Vending; Cindy Fulk of Nova Solutions; and Tammy Lakin of Dan Hecht Chevrolet/Toyota.

Summers said her work in the community was a way to meet people when she moved here as a single mom with three children. She's still going strong, including many years of service to United Way of Effingham County.

Professionally, she was commended for various accomplishments including creating Siemer Milling's first website.

Guest speaker Donna Moody of St. Louis spoke on "Humor in the Workplace". As one team building exercise, those in attendance were asked to draw a pig. Here are the entries from Dan Hecht Chevrolet/Toyota...

This was the 44th Annual Business Appreciation Luncheon.
