A Clay City man was killed in a crash just after 7pm Tuesday.

67-year-old William Viehmeyer was traveling north on US Route 45 a half-mile north of Hickory Hill Road, which is three miles south of Louisville. Viehmeyer was attempting to pass another vehicle and lost control of his SUV. The vehicle traveled off the roadway to the left and overturned multiple times. Both Viehmeyer and his passenger, 43-year-old Randall Helms, Jr. of Louisville, were ejected from the vehicle, which came to rest in a ditch.

Viehmeyer was pronounced dead at the scene. Helms was airlifted from the scene to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Route 45 was closed with traffic re-routed for approximately 4-1/2 hours following the crash.
