Two people were injured in a crash south of Farina Sunday afternoon. The car involved had reportedly been stolen.

State police say the crash occurred at 4:18pm on I-57, six miles south of Farina. A vehicle driven by 36-year-old Ryan Whigham of Hazel Crest was southbound when it ran off the roadway to the left and into the median. Police say Whigham overcorrected and the car came back across both southbound lanes and ran off to the right, striking the guardrail.

Whigham and his passenger, 33-year-old Ericka Kemple of Chicago, were both injured. They were taken to Salem Hospital and then were later transported to St. Louis University Hospital.

Whigham was cited for possession of a stolen vehicle, obstructing justice, obstructing identification, driving while his license is suspended, improper lane usage and operating unsafe equipment. Kemple was cited for obstructing justice and obstructing identification.
