Altamont School Board Holds March Meeting

Altamont school board members this week heard that end-of-year dates are being finalized.

High school principal Jerry Tkachuk reported that senior parents have set Sunday, May 13 at 7pm as the date for Baccalaureate. High school commencement has already been scheduled for May 19 at 7pm.

Tkachuk also reported that the fall and winter athletic banquet will take place on Monday, April 2 at the Carriage House Event Center.

There was also information that the next in the countywide series of Community Celebration of Excellence Breakfasts would be held at the Carriage House the morning of Wednesday, April 11. The topic will be the plans for the Effingham Regional Career Academy.

Superintendent Jeff Fritchtnitch reported that a resident is willing to donate a significant amount of funds to construct a concession stand and washrooms at the track and soccer complex. There are drawings available from when the track was constructed at the grade school building.

The Board also approved a fifth grade basketball program; approved registration fees for 2018-2019 to include a course fee of $20 for dual credit drafting, dual credit art, and dual credit self management; accepted a Chromebook bid from Dell EMC for $189,212.50; approved buildings and grounds summer maintenance work for a cost of $30,500; and approved posting for a high school assistant principal and athletic director.

The Altamont board approved the resignations of cook Jane Culver and crossing guard Giles Gieseking; approved an early graduation request for Jade Shryock; and approved volunteer coaches including Savannah Feezel for high school softball, Gary Ellis for boys and girls high school track, Jo Ellis for high school and grade school track, and Donovan Riley for high school baseball.
