A Flora man has been sentenced to prison for an offense in Louisville on Christmas Eve.

35-year-old Joshua Moheit was sentenced Wednesday to 3-1/2 years in prison on a charge of unlawful restraint. In exchange for a guilty plea to the charge, a Class X felony count of aggravated vehicle hijacking was amended to a lesser offense, and counts of obstructing justice and driving while his license is revoked were dismissed.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office received a report about 1am on December 24 from Casey's General Store in Louisville. The report was that a man had been in the store and stated he was being held hostage by a man in a silver truck. Witnesses relayed to the deputy that the victim stated that he had been threatened by the man in the truck with a weapon. The deputy located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. He took Moheit into custody without incident. The victim was not physically injured during the incident.

Moheit also pleaded guilty Thursday in a 2016 case in which he was charged with obstructing justice for destroying evidence. A two-year prison term in that case will run concurrent with the Christmas Eve case.

Moheit must also make $3,000 restitution and will serve one year mandatory supervised release once out of prison.
