Illinois Counties' Jobless Figures Down from One Year Earlier

Effingham County's unemployment rate in January was 4.2%. That's down from 5.6% one year earlier.

Other area counties saw similar drops.

The counties and their rates:

Coles--4.4%, down from 5.8%

Cumberland--4.4%, down from 6.2%

Shelby--4.7%, down from 6.5%

Clay--5.5%, down from 7.3%

Fayette--6.1%, down from 8.2%

Jasper--5.2%, down from 7.5%
