A longtime downtown Effingham business is closing soon.

The Midwest Office Supply location at 4th and Washington will be closed as of April 6. A store spokesperson said only three of the company's 13 retail locations will remain in operation. Midwest Office will continue to take phone and online orders.

The spokesperson said it's not clear what if any employees will remain with the business.

The DeMarco family of Springfield have operated the business in recent years after acquiring it from Randall and Shelia Roberts.

The store opened in 1946 as Schottman's Office Supply and was operated until his death by Ernest Schottman.

The building housing the store is one of the oldest structures remaining in downtown Effingham.
