A four-year prison term has been given a California man for possession of heroin.

54-year-old Rosario Gonzalez of San Diego was arrested last August just before 11am on I-70, east of Vandalia. A state trooper pulled over the Gonzalez vehicle for improper lane usage. More than 900 grams of heroin was found inside the vehicle during a subsequent search.

Gonzalez was originally charged with a Class X felony count of controlled substance trafficking, but that count was dismissed as part of a negotiated plea.

The street value of the heroin discovered was approximately $648,000.
