Altamont School Board Acts On Several Items at Work Weekend

The Altamont school board took action on a number of items at its work weekend on February 23-24.
The Board:
--heard a presentation regarding the status of comprehensive district technology status, and goals and expectations for the coming year
--heard curriculum presentations from grade school principal Doug Hill and high school principal Jerry Tkachuk, with the principals providing score data in March and April
--heard from Carbondale grade school district assistant superintendent Justin Miller who provided a review of district finances and processes for bonding, setting the tax levy, prioritizing programs and creating a district budget
--heard from Maintenance Director Alan Whitt on district facilities, grounds, and summer maintenance projects as well as summer cleaning plans and presented the Board with short-term and long-term goals
--approved a three-year contract extension for grade school principal Doug Hill for each of the coming three years with a 2% salary increase each year
--approved a one-year contract extension for grade school athletic director Kris Biggs with a 2% salary increase
--approved a 2018-19 contract extension for Kathy Clausius for 140 days with a 2% salary increase
--authorized the Administration to advertise for a junior high English/Language Arts teacher, high school part-time Business teacher and Technology Coordinator
--approved full-time employment for Rhiannon Boehm and Beth Lawler from 3/4 time to fulltime for next school year
--accepted Laura Arney' resignation as second grade teacher
--accepted resignations from Kacy Perry as junior high cheer coach
--approved Fred Ault as a high school volunteer softball coach and Justin Osteen as junior high girls track coach
--approved renewal of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year non-tenured certified staff members for next year
--approved 4th year certified staff for continued employment and tenure for next year
--approved a cooperative athletic agreement with Altamont Lutheran Interparish School for two years in junior high girls basketball
--approved purchasing district camera systems server and software upgrade at a cost of $17,532 with Security Alarm Corporation
--approved a pre-vocational program agreement with Eastern Illinois Area Special Education for next school year
--tabled registration fees for the coming year
--adopted next year's school calendar
